CIF |
Cost, insurance and freight. |
COD |
Cash on delivery, customers own delivery. |
Consignee |
The person whom goods or cargo is to be delivered by the carrier to the place of destination. This is the receiver. |
Consignor |
The sender of the goods or cargo. |
Crating |
A packaging method usually used for larger items, heavy items, and valued items that could be damaged easily. There is usually a higher cost for this method of packaging, but the advantage is protection. Consult with our freight agent to see if this is a good alternative for your items. |
Customer |
The person who FreightForwarding.com values the most. The person who purchases the service. |
Declared Value |
The value of goods declared to the carrier by the shipper for the purpose of determining charges or of establishing the limit of the carrier's liability for loss, damage, or delay. |
Delivery Order |
Written instructions issued by the owner of the goods or shipment directing that the freight be released or shipped to a specified party. |
Destination |
This is where the shipment or goods will be delivered. |
DOT |
Department of Transportation. U.S. cabinet level agency responsible for domestic transportation and U.S. inland portions of international shipments. |

Origin |
The place where the goods or shipment is picked up. |
Packing List |
Documents that itemizes shipment contents. This should include weight (gross and net), dimensions, contents and parcels within the shipment. It also can be used for identifying damages or shortages. Customers must present a packing list for all export shipments. |
Pallet |
A wooden frame on which pieces of general cargo is placed so they can be lifted using a forklift truck. |
Power of Attorney |
Legal ability or authority given by one individual or firm in specific matters. |
Shipper |
The person with the goods or cargo to be shipped. The manufacturer of the cargo or the party who contracts to ship the goods as per the bill of lading. |
Tynes |
Another term for the forks of a forklift truck. |
