HAVE QUESTIONS?
Who is the consignee and who is the consignor or shipper?
The consignor (or shipper) is the person who is the originator of the shipment. A consignee is the person who is the receiver of the shipment.
How can I get a quote for the goods I want shipped from FreightForwarding.com?
FreightForwarding.com is available 7 days a week, 24hours a day. We can be reached by our Toll Free 800 number or by email at quotes@freightforwarding.com. You can also fax your quotes to (760) 341-8092. There are Freight Agents on call 24/7 and will be reached by pager if it is after business hours. FreightForwarding.com is there to serve our customers, plain and simple.
Does my shipment need any special packaging for freight shipping?
Yes your freight needs to be packaged and or palletized, it is the shippers responsibility for packaging the goods. Shrink wrap, corrugated boxing, palletizing and strapping or banding is the most common type of packaging for the freight industry. For additional information on packaging see our Packaging Guidelines. We can help you to determine what packaging alternatives are available for your specific type of freight. We also have access to other providers who would be able to package your goods for you for additional costs. Since we are here to help on an individual basis, ask your Freight Agent.
Do I need to know the weight of my goods?
In most cases you can estimate your weight on the bill of lading. But be aware that the carrier can and will adjust the weight, which will determine your final cost. The final weight is known as the "chargeable weight". For Air Freight, chargeable weight may be the dimensional weight if greater than the gross weight of the shipment. If you have underestimated the weight, and the shipment reaches a central terminal, a dock master will judge the goods and perhaps reweigh the goods. If reweighed, you will be billed for the new actual weight. Each mode of transportation has its own set of rules. Your Freight Agent at FreightForwarding.com can answer those questions for you.
Can I have my goods picked up at a certain time to meet my schedule?
We will try to arrange your pick up to meet your time table. We can arrange for pick up on a certain day of the week, with a four hour window for that pickup. Pickups are generally done in the afternoon, while the deliveries are done in the mornings to early afternoon. Call your Freight Agent at Freightforwarding.com the morning of the scheduled pickup or delivery for an updated time frame.
Who insures my goods while they are being shipped?
All shipments are insured under the National Motor Carriers Association. This insures goods at value of up to $25 per pound. If you need more insurance we can provide this for you. Household goods are insured for only $.10 per pound, but with most policies you can use your homeowners insurance for no additional cost. Check with your insurance agent. Commercial shipments may also be insured for release value. Airfreight shipments are automatically insured for $100.00 and if additional insurance is needed, it may be purchased. We can supply you with additional insurance for 1-2% of it's declared value with a minimum charge. Ask your Freight Agent at FreightForwarding.com for additional information.
What information should I have available to discuss my shipment with a Freight Agent at FreightForwarding.com?
To be able to give you a quoted rate, we will need the origin city of your shipment with the zip code and the destination city with the zip code. Do we need to have a forklift for delivery or pick up? Is there a dock on either end? What is the weight and dimensions of the shipment. Are there any time constraints ? This will help the Freight Agent determine the mode of transportation to meet your deadlines. There might be documents needed from the consignor, we can let you know if that is necessary. You will also need to let us know how many pieces are in the shipment and the type of packaging. All of this information gives us the ability to quote you a rate that will make our commitment to you a success. Contact FreightForwarding.com and speak to a Freight Agent to help with any other specific information you will need.
